ICE's Sixth Instagram Photograph Contest
The theme of the traditional Instagram Photograph Contest by Izmir Commodity Exchange (ICE), one of the few institutions that have witnessed the political and economic life of Türkiye for 130 years, has been selected as "Sustainability in Agriculture" this year.
The contest will be held in three different categories as 'Sustainability in Agricultural Production Photography', 'Sustainability in Agricultural Trade Photography', 'The Impact of Climate Change on Agriculture Photography' on the Instagram account of the exchange, @izmirticaretborsasi, between 01 October-30 November and the total award will be TRY 40,000.
Işınsu Kestelli, the Chairperson of Izmir Commodity Exchange, stated that photographs suitable for the theme of sustainability in agriculture could participate in the contest, and said; “Our first Instagram contest on our historical Exchange Palace and our photography contests attracted great interest with the themes of grapes and figs, cotton and olive-olive oil, livestock, soil, and children, respectively. This year, we aim to draw attention to the concepts of sustainability in trade and commerce and climate change, which is one of the most critical threats to sustainability in agriculture, and to highlight the concept of "Sustainability in Agriculture", one of the main pillars of our strategy of "transforming the wealth of agriculture", which covers the development/transformation to meet the needs of today's and future generations and increase social welfare by aiming environmental protection, economic growth, and social development.
Pointing out that the concept of “sustainability”, which is also emphasized by the European Green Deal, aims to ensure the development and welfare of humanity by protecting the continuity of production and diversity and the future generations' access to resources, Kestelli said; “Therefore, in our traditional photography contest organized within the mainframe of “Sustainability in Agriculture” in our 130th anniversary, we will transform our wealth into living frames through photography. We anticipate that beautiful photographs will be sent for the contest organized under the special categories determined within the framework of the theme of the contest.”
How to participate in the contest
First, participants must follow the official Instagram account of Izmir Commodity Exchange, @izmirticaretborsasi. The contest will include photographs related to the three categories with sustainability in agriculture theme after being shared on the participant accounts with the hashtag #itbyarisma21 and the tag @izmirticaretborsasi. Those who want to participate in the contest can find details about the conditions of participation at https://itb.org.tr/instaborsayarisma.
An award of TRY 40,000 in total awaits the winners.
In the contest to be held in the categories of 'Sustainability in Agricultural Production - Photography', 'Sustainability in Agricultural Trade - Photography' and 'The Impact of Climate Change on Agriculture - Photography ', the first prize is TRY 5,000, the second prize is TRY 3,000, and the third prize is TRY 2,000. If the jury deems it appropriate, the honorable mention award will be TRY 1,000. In addition, an exhibition award of TRY 350 will be given for the photographs determined by the jury for each category.
The photographs participating in the contest will be evaluated by a jury committee including the representatives of Izmir Commodity Exchange, 9 Eylul University - Faculty of Fine Arts - Department of Photography, Ege University - Faculty of Communication - Department of Photography and Graphics, Yasar University - Faculty of Communication - Department of Public Relations and Advertising, Photojournalists Association of Türkiye - Aegean Region Representative, and Izmir Journalists Association.
Which photographs will be evaluated in the categories of the contest?
Within the scope of the main theme of "Sustainability in Agriculture", photographs in 3 different categories will be evaluated as detailed below.
1) Sustainability in Agricultural Production Photography Category
In this category, aiming to protect the wealth of agriculture, carry it into the future, and add value, photographs on traditional and modern agricultural production practices aimed at ensuring the sustainability of the farmer/labor, product, production areas, and natural assets will be evaluated. (Production with renewable energies, applications, and technologies that increase efficiency in production and/or protect natural resources, make efficient use of water, transform food waste into value, etc.).
2) Sustainability in Agricultural Trade Photography Category
In this category, aiming to protect the wealth of agriculture, carry it to the future, and add value, photographs on the change, development, and sustainability of agricultural trade will be evaluated. (The areas where agricultural trade takes place: Stock Exchanges, Electronic Transaction Halls, Markets, Auctions, Animal Markets, agricultural and food logistics processes, etc.)
3) The Impact of Climate Change on Agriculture Photography Category
In this category, aiming to protect the wealth of agriculture, photographs on the impact of climate change, which threatens sustainability in agriculture, will be evaluated. (Climatic conditions such as flood, fire, storm, drought, etc., impact agricultural products, livestock, beekeeping, agricultural production areas, and producers.
