Forecasting the volume of production of a crop is very important for producers, industrialists, traders and policy-making public authorities in agricultural sector. İzmir Commodity Exchange conducts production outlook research and cite a production forecast for raisin, cotton, fig and olive oil each season with the contribution of related organizations for years.
The cotton production forecast has been conducted with remote-sensing technique since 2000-2001, which facilitates providing the members with scientifically supported data on production. This project is remarkable as it is the first production forecast project in which satellite images are used in crop production forecast.
