The derivatives exchanges are actively operating in various parts of the world for several years. Considering these exchanges are crucial for the economy and agriculture, İTB initiated preliminary research activities for establishment a derivatives exchange in Türkiye in the beginning of 1990s. As a result, the Turkish Derivatives Exchange (TURKDEX) was founded in the partnership of 17 organizations.
TURKDEX is the first derivatives exchange and at the same time first private exchange of Türkiye. Shortly after opening on February 4, 2005, it partook among the leading derivatives exchanges of the world. In accordance with the amendments in the legislation in 2013, all shares of the TURKDEX were transferred to Borsa İstanbul (BIST). Also, İTB became a shareholder in BIST.
