ICE launches Public Communication Campaign on Combatting Substance Abuse
The Public Communication Campaign on Combatting Substance Abuse that was organized by İzmir Commodity Exchange (ICE) with the awareness of corporate social responsibility and had been run since 2015 was completed under the coordination of Yaşar University and İzmir Provincial Directorate of Security. The launching meeting in which the studies carried out throughout the campaign were shared with the participants was held in the ICE at 17:30 on Tuesday, 27 December 2016. The meeting was attended by Hüseyin Aşkın, İzmir Provincial Director of Security; Prof. Dr. Mehmet Cemali Dinçer, rector of Yaşar University; Işınsu Kestelli, chairperson of Board of Directors of the ICE, and the other project stakeholders.
Having spoken at the launching meeting in which the rector Prof. Dr. Cemali Dinçer and Prof.Dr. Ümit Atabek, dean of the Communication Department of Yaşar University, informed all participants of the project, Mr. Aşkın stated that the Security Directorate strived with all their strength to prevent and halt the use and sales of drugs and asserted that 257 drug dealers were caught in İzmir in the last month. He also added, “It is an absolute fact that we need our people's support in fighting against substance abuse. This project will just be a beginning. I believe that the websites www.farkindeol.org' and 'www.maddebagimliligiyamucadele.org' prepared under this project will be very beneficial. I congratulate everyone who has been involved in the preparation of these websites. As a father, I do not want my kids to try these substances. I also have a duty, which puts a quite heavy weight on my shoulders, to make sure that no children encounter such substances. For this reason, I am ready to do everything at my disposal to contribute to the project".
Highlighting that the campaign developed with the valuable work and contributions of the Directorate of Security and Yaşar University, the ICE chairperson Mrs. Kestelli said, "Last year, at the onset of this project, we shared two goals with you as part of the project: To raise awareness of parents and forge public opinion about substance abuse, and create online interactive educational content about substance abuse for youngsters and parents. Now it's time to get some results. I would like to thank everyone that has become a part of this project. As İzmir Commodity Exchange, we attach great importance to this awareness campaign. As far as I know, this is the first time a professional organization supports such a campaign. This is a source of pride for us. There is a need for well-educated, hardworking and, most importantly, healthy generations in order for our country to realize the big dreams it has regarding the future. Atatürk expressed the duty of parents in order to meet this need as, “Children must be protected from all kinds of negligence and abuse, and they must be treated more delicately than adults under all circumstances”. We, therefore, heartily support the mission to raise the awareness of the people of İzmir and our country in general about the substance abuse for a healthier, happier and more prosperous future. As a mother, I don't want even one child to get hurt by and suffer from these harmful substances".
