The ICE signs a protocol with the Italians at Julius Caesar's house

A cooperation protocol has been signed between İzmir Commodity Exchange (ICE) and Italian Online Commodities Exchange (BMTI) to develop electronic commerce. The protocol was signed by the ICE chairperson Işınsu Kestelli and Andrea Zanlari, president of the BMTI, in the building that was the home of Julius Caesar 2200 years ago and is now used by the BMTI in Rome. The protocol is intended to promote the International Online Market developed by the BMTI and E-Commodity Bazaar electronic commodities trading platform developed by the ICE to improve the online trading of agricultural products among the members of both Exchanges, and to develop electronic agricultural trade in general between the two countries.

The signing ceremony hosted by the BMTI was attended by Vincenzo Liguori, a representative from the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Forestry Policies of Italy, his Excellency Mr. Murat Salim Esenli, Turkish Ambassador to Rome, Andrea Zanlari, chairperson of the Board of Directors of the BMTI, Işınsu Kestelli, chairperson of the Board of Directors of the ICE, Ercan Korkmaz and Bülent Arman, deputy chairpersons of the ICE, Bülent Uçak, treasurer of the ICE, directors and other members of the Board of Directors of the ICE.

The ICE chairperson Işınsu Kestelli said, "The trade volume of agricultural and food products between the two countries constitutes 4% of Türkiye's trade in this area and only 1% of Italy's overall trade of agricultural and food products. This really is an issue that needs to be mulled over and is open to be developed. I am of the opinion that these two countries that can be considered geographically close to each other should have a much higher trade volume in the trade of agricultural and food products. The cooperation to be established between our Exchanges is of great importance in this respect".

The BMTI chairperson Andrea Zanlari said, "We are very happy to be here today with the delegation of İzmir Commodity Exchange to sign a cooperation protocol regarding the International Online Market we have established under the project called 'a bridge for agricultural trade' and the quite similar project of the ICE called E-Commodity Bazaar. I believe that our cooperation will reveal and increase the agricultural trade potential between our countries".

Vincenzo Liguori, a representative from the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Forestry Policies of Italy and his Excellency Mr. Murat Salim Esenli, Turkish Ambassador to Rome, on the other hand, mentioned that agricultural trade and production had a strategic importance for Türkiye and Italy, and it would contribute positively to the development of trade volumes of both countries and the promotion of electronic commerce among the members of both Exchanges.

After the speeches, Dr. Erçin Güdücü, Secretary General of the ICE, made an informative presentation about the projects run and works carried out by the ICE. Following Mr. Güdücü's presentation, Mrs. Kestelli expressed their gratitude saying that they would be delighted to host the BMTI delegation in İzmir Commodity Exchange to further the cooperation between the two Exchanges.
