ICE Project Contest concluded

Winners of the project contest titled "Agriculture Rises with the Youngsters" that was organized by İzmir Commodity Exchange (ICE) specific to its 125th anniversary of establishment were announced after the jury evaluation meeting held on 2 November 2016.

The jury comprising 7 academics and a director from the Izmir Provincial Directorate of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock evaluated the projects that applied to the contest that was organized by İzmir Commodity Exchange in order to develop new modern agricultural practices and strengthen the ties between the youngsters and the agriculture to ensure sustainability in agriculture and improve the competitiveness, and embolden the youngsters to come up with innovative projects in agriculture.

As a result of the jury evaluation that was carried out in two stages, Arzu Mert became the winner of 10.000 Turkish Liras with her project named "Prototype Mass Production of the Predator Bug 'Orius Laevigatus' in Control of Agricultural Pests" aiming to mass-produce the predator bug 'Orius Laevigatus' that is used in biological control of the pests thrips and whiteflies while Tayfur Ünal ranked second and won 5.000 Turkish Liras with his "E-TAR" project. Özge Elif Ceylan got the third place and won 3.000 Turkish Liras with her project titled "Türkiye Grows with Agriculture".

Commenting on the results of the contest, Işınsu Kestelli, the chairperson of the Board of Directors of the ICE, said, "As İzmir Commodity Exchange, we believe that the youngsters are the biggest advantage we have in agriculture and that the future generations are responsible for carrying the agriculture to the better. Functioning with the understanding of 'from Tradition to the Future', we are always to support our youngsters in their path to improve the agriculture".

Prof. Dr. Aytaç Gümüşkesen, an academic from the Food Engineering Department of the Engineering Faculty of Ege University,

Prof. Dr. Oğuz Dikenelli, an academic from the Computer Engineering Department of the Engineering Faculty of Ege University,

Dr. Emrah Tomur, director of the Information and Technology Transfer Office of Yaşar University,

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Y. Murat Erten, Computer Engineering Department of İzmir Institute of Technology,

Asst. Prof. Dr. Ufuk Çelikkan, an academic from the Software Engineering Department of Izmir Economy University,

Ali Ateş, director of the Coordination and Agricultural Data Department of the İzmir Provincial Directorate of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock.
