Delegations of Malaysia and the Ministry of Economy visit the ICE
İzmir Commodity Exchange (ICE) hosted Fatih Metin, Deputy Minister of Economy of the Republic of Türkiye, Adnan Yıldırım, Chief Advisor to the Minister of Economy, and the delegation of Malaysia, which was the partner country of the 85th İzmir International Fair, headed by Mr. Dato Dzulkifli Mahmud, who is the CEO of Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), on Friday, 26 August 2016. The delegation welcomed by Işınsu Kestelli, chairperson of the Board of Directors of the ICE, Ercan Korkmaz, deputy chairperson of the Board of Directors and the Secretary General Dr. Erçin Güdücü examined the functioning mechanism and the trading halls of the ICE.
Fatih Metin, Deputy Minister of Economy, drew attention to the insufficient volume of trade amounting to $1 billion despite the free trade agreement between Malaysia and Türkiye. Stating that the target was set as $5 billion as part of the agreement, Mr. Metin stressed that the visits paid and to be paid by such delegations were of vital importance in terms of improving bilateral relations, and added that they attached significant importance to developing the cooperation between the two countries in the fields of energy, health and halal food.
Expressing that she was pleased to host the Malaysian delegation as the partner country of the 85th İzmir International Fair, the ICE chairperson Işınsu Kestelli said "Malaysia is a country that I love very much and frequently visit due to my personal commercial business. I am thus very happy to be together here today with the Malaysian delegation. The trade volume between Türkiye and Malaysia was around 1.7 billion dollars in 2015. This volume amounts to point five percent of the total trade volumes of both countries. I truly believe that this is a very low rate. 80% of this trade volume consists of Malaysia's exports to Türkiye. We can say that the two friendly countries have failed to establish a model of cooperation based on the 'win-win' philosophy."
