Cotton Projects Information Meeting held in the ICE
An information meeting, where the final and intermediate result reports of two research projects carried out by Nazilli Cotton Research Institute of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock and supported by İzmir Commodity Exchange (ICE) were presented, was held for the cotton agents and brokers of the ICE on Thursday, 14 April 2016 in İzmir Commodity Exchange.
Having delivered the opening speech of the meeting, ICE Board member Bülent Uçak expressed that the cotton was the basic raw material of the textile industry, which is the most important export sector of our country, and that the quality cotton production needed to be increased in order for our textile-apparel industry to compete in the world markets. He also stressed that İzmir Commodity Exchange, where reference prices are set daily for cotton and raisins, had always supported research projects to improve the cotton quality.
The final report regarding the "Project on Determining Major Contaminants on Machine-picked Cotton in the Aegean Region and Researching on Contamination-free Cotton Production Facilities", which was carried out between 2013 and 2015, was presented by the Senior Agricultural Engineer Dr. Nedim Özbek. The intermediate result report of the ongoing "Project on Researching the Quality Distribution of Cotton Fibre in Cotton Production Areas and the Differences between Cotton Production Areas in the Aegean Region" was announced to the members of our Exchange by the Senior Agricultural Engineer Dr. Feride Öncel Sümer from Nazilli Cotton Research Institute of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock.
Towards the end of the meeting, the participants expressed their views on the project results and the cotton sector in general, and emphasized the importance of quality cotton production.
