Radical proposals by İzmir Commodity Exchange
The 'Workshop on Cotton in the 21st Century' was held at Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University on 23-24 March 2016. In the workshop that was attended by producers associations, commodity exchanges, representatives of textile industry and the academics, Şükrü Barış Kocagöz, president of the Assembly and Bülent Uçak and Şeref İyiuyarlar, members of the Board of Directors, took part in the workshop representing İzmir Commodity Exchange and shared their opinions and proposals regarding the cotton sector.
Having spoken at the workshop where the participants were informed about ELIDAS, IZLADAS and IZBEP, the first and only integrated licensed cotton warehousing systems of Türkiye, by the technical staff of İzmir Commodity Exchange (ICE), the chairperson of the Assembly of ICE Şükrü Barış Kocagöz underlined that we had a quite good infrastructure in terms of quality and quantity in marketing the cotton and creating raw material for various industries by ginning the cotton.
Board member Bülent Uçak also stressed that the transactions carried out and the prices set in the cotton hall of İzmir Commodity Exchange were considered as reference in our country and steered the unginned and fibre cotton trade.
Reminding that Türkiye's geography is very suitable for quality cotton production, ICE Board member Şeref İyiuyarlar said, "Türkiye is one of the countries producing the most productive cotton of the world. We rank second in average yield. One of the reasons for the rapid development of our textile and apparel industries is that we are able to produce quality cotton".
In addition, General Director of ELIDAS Ahmet Özlü made a presentation about the functioning system of ELIDAS, the only licensed cotton warehouse of our country, while the official from IZLADAS (ICE Laboratory, R&D and Consultancy Services Co.) Müge Ekizoğlu threw an informative speech about the analyses carried out on cotton for the licensed warehouses and the official classifier services they provide. ICE R&D Director Mustafa Yağcıoğlu also made a presentation about the functioning of İzmir Commodity Exchange Electronic Platform (İZBEP) where the electronic product certificates issued by ELIDAS are traded.
