Kocagöz offered 5 suggestion for Cotton
President of Izmir Commodity Exchange Assembly and Chairperson of the National Cotton Council, Barış Kocagöz said, cotton producers disappointed this season and if there are not taken any precautions, the cotton production will decrease in the coming season. Kocagöz emphasized that a series of precautions must be taken like the amount of support premium and time of payment, measures to reduce costs, postponement of the Agricultural Bank (Ziraat Bankası) debt; and gave this suggestions to the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock.
With the Food, Agriculture and Livestock Minister Mehdi Eker’s approval, Barış Kocagöz filed a report to General Manager of Plant Production, Mevlüt Gümüş. Kocagöz also said: “Previous season’s cotton prices were steady thanks to low production in our country and the world market price levels, but it has led to a frustration this year. Türkiye, entered into a cotton harvest season with its expanding cultivation areas, we expect to harvest 750,000 tons. However, an excess of supply at the time of harvest and the fall in world prices damaged the manufacturer and it seems it will continue. Because of these reasons, cotton producers who will be hurt if no precautions will be taken and manufacturers escape from cotton production once more.”
