Ideas Competed Agriculture Won

The idea competition of "Agriculture Rises with Young People" has been organized by the Izmir Commodity Exchange (ICE) to support young people who want to work in the field of agriculture. The competition's award ceremony, which was held for the sixth time this year and has now become a tradition, took place on Thursday, February 3, 2022. The exhibition, which includes the projects that are entitled to be exhibited, will be open to exhibition visitors between 3-6 February 2022 at the AgroExpo Agriculture and Livestock Fair.

Ercan Korkmaz, Deputy Chairperson of the Executive Board, who made the opening speech of the award ceremony of the "Agriculture Rises with Young People " competition, one of the projects carried out by the ICE to transform the wealth of agriculture, stated that he was happy to be together with the young people, and he said, "All developed countries used agriculture as a locomotive in development. In our country, we are very lucky in this respect. We have a very high agricultural potential. We should always keep in mind the value of this treasure we have. The climate has been changing, our production patterns and consumption habits have been changing. In short, the world has been changing and most importantly, the change has been happening very fast. Agriculture, which has been dominated by traditional methods, also gets its share of this change. Technology has been gradually being integrated into all stages of agriculture. Our esteemed young people also have important duties in this regard. Young people should be the pioneers of change in agriculture. We are also obliged to pave the way for our young people and support them. As the first commodity exchange of our country, we know our responsibility in this regard. Therefore, we have been organizing the idea contest of 'Agriculture Rises with Young People' since 2016."

Stating that they have two main purposes in organizing this competition, Ercan Korkmaz said, "The first objective is to develop contemporary agricultural practices to make agriculture more sustainable and to improve our competitiveness. The second purpose is to encourage young people to generate ideas that will create innovation in the field of agriculture to strengthen our young people's relationship with the agriculture industry. Creative projects that were submitted to the competition were evaluated by our esteemed jury members. Of the 62 projects that were accepted, 13 projects were qualified for the award. I congratulate all our young people who participated in our competition with their valuable ideas and those who won an award, and I hope that their interest in agriculture will increasingly continue."

Following the opening speech, the awards of the project owners who were awarded and entitled to exhibit their projects in the competition were given by Barış Kocagöz, the President of the İzmir Commodity Exchange Assembly, Ercan Korkmaz, Deputy Chairperson of the Executive Board, Members of the ICE Executive Board, François Viel, the Agricultural Advisor of the French Embassy, and Zeliha Toprak, the Honorary Consul of France in Izmir. The exhibition of the Agriculture Rises with Young People Competition will be open to visitors at the ICE booth during the AgroExpo Fair.

Making a general assessment of the competition after the award ceremony and the exhibition, Işınsu Kestelli, the Chairperson of the  İzmir Commodity Exchange, said, "In our competition, which was organized under the fields of "Smart Agriculture", "Environmentally Friendly Agriculture", "Agricultural Marketing, Branding, and Communication", "Rural Development", and "Plant and Animal Production", we aimed to encourage young people to produce ideas that would create innovation in the agriculture field and ensure the integration of agriculture with different fields of work to improve sustainability and competitiveness in agriculture and to develop contemporary agricultural practices and to strengthen the relationship of the young people with the agriculture industry. Agriculture has a vital role in sustainable and inclusive growth. We must address the issue of retaining young people in the agriculture and livestock industries. As the Izmir Commodity Exchange, which has served Izmir and the national economy for 130 years, we have adopted the principle of working in the light of universal values in all areas we operate. We believe that achievements are not coincidental but the result of stable work. From this point of view, with our Agriculture Rises with Young People Project Idea Competition, the sixth of which we organized this year, we aimed to reveal creative ideas by supporting young people who want to work in the field of agriculture.
