Compliance Deadlines for the Regulation and Guidelines

In a letter received from the İzmir Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Türkiye, it is reported that the Turkish Food Codex Regulation on Food Labeling and Consumer Information was amended on April 6, 2024, taking consumer concerns into consideration.

Pursuant to Article 48 of the Regulation, food business operators are also required to comply with the instructions or guidelines published on the Ministry's website.

Article 41 of the same Guidelines states that, for foods served at mass catering establishments, it is mandatory to provide the name of the food along with information on allergens, alcohol, and pork-derived ingredients, if present in the food's composition.

In addition, information must be provided regarding the ingredients and energy values of foods offered to consumers at mass catering establishments.

Information on food ingredients and energy values at mass catering establishments may be provided through menus, notice boards, brochures, QR codes, digital screens, and similar means, in a manner that is easily visible and clearly legible to consumers.

If this information is provided via a QR code, a written notice must be displayed in a location easily visible to consumers, stating that the relevant information can be accessed through the QR code and that consumers without a device capable of scanning QR codes will be provided with this information upon request.

Article 47 of the Guidelines establishes the following compliance deadlines for mass catering establishments:

- For mass catering establishments operating as nationwide chains, compliance is required by July 1, 2026,

- For mass catering establishments with three or more branches operating exclusively within the boundaries of the same province, compliance is required by December 31, 2026,

- For all other mass catering establishments, compliance is required by December 31, 2026, for ingredient declarations and by December 31, 2027, for energy value declarations.

To avoid any issues during official inspections, we hereby inform you of the compliance process regarding the amendments to the Regulation and Guidelines.
