Ban on Imports of Watermelons and Watermelon Seeds from Syria

According to a letter received from the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB), referring to a communication from the Ministry of Trade; violations involving Acidovorax citrulli, a quarantine pathogen for Türkiye, have been detected in watermelon seeds imported from the Syrian Arab Republic.

The letter further states that the importation of watermelons and watermelon seeds from the Syrian Arab Republic into Türkiye has been prohibited until further notice, except for shipments accompanied by Phytosanitary Certificates issued before May 1, 2026.
