ELİDAŞ is to store cotton using sunlight

Aegean Agricultural Products Licensed Warehousing Inc. (ELİDAŞ), which was established under the leadership of Izmir Commodity Exchange (ICE) as the first warehouse in Türkiye to store cotton and issue electronic product certificates, has added a new one to its pioneering practices in agriculture. ELİDAŞ has established a solar energy production plant to meet all the energy need of the whole facility, especially the warehouse and the laboratory.

The ICE President and ELİDAŞ Chairperson Mr. Barış Kocagöz noted that the project started with the slogan of "A revolution in agriculture" and had been proceeding successfully towards its pre-set goals through the services provided with regard to modern agricultural marketing. Mr. Kocagöz said, "To this end, we aimed to obtain the energy consumed in the facilities from national, domestic and renewable sources. In the solar energy production plant, 311.000 kW of energy is projected to be generated per year with the operation of 880 solar panels in a total area of 1.600 m2."

Having stated that the solar energy production and use had started in September, Mr. Kocagöz added, "Thanks to the solar power plant, nearly 17,000 tonnes of stored cotton, the laboratory and other facilities will benefit from solar energy. The facility that will pay the way for a revolution for the regional agriculture will also produce the energy it needs for functioning. When the power plant is operating, 186.637 kg of carbon dioxide emissions will also be prevented. This amount is equivalent to the oxygen produced by 16,843 adult red pines. Thanks to this project supported also by the İzmir Development Agency, National Agriculture will be fostered with National Energy through renewable energy production."
